au revoir, tumblr

I think I’m out of here for a spell.

actually, I’ve been out of here for a week or more already and I don’t think anyone’s noticed, which goes to show how little participation I’ve been doing lately.

at the minute my main objective is keeping my mental health steady enough to be able to study. for the last while this place has been more of a hindrance than a help in that goal. (although it took a bit of a verbal shaking from a friend to realise that - which she may not have known she was doing, but it was necessary) I tried cutting down the number of blogs I was following, but that wasn’t enough. I need to not be on here, full stop.

I’m leaving this tumblr up and the link to neon-loneliness says I’m on hiatus. I’ll probably be back, under this guise or another. anyone who’s got other ways to contact me is welcome to, and anyone I know - ie, we talk - is welcome to ask for such.

au revoir.

To Franz Kafka - Tom Clark

“It is as if I were made of stone, as if I were my own tombstone, there is no loophole for doubt or for faith, for love or repugnance, for courage or anxiety, in particular or in general, only a vague hope lives on, no better than the inscriptions on tombstones.”

Franz,
if you’d gone to work
in your family’s
asbestos factory,
instead of at
the insurance institute,
you might have become
a success in business
and stayed away from
that disastrous literature
which ruined your health
by keeping you up nights
so that at six each morning
you had to dress
in your immaculate suit
and go off to work
with your thin frame and narrow head
all twisted
from sleeplessness and
fatigue of the nervous system.

But then when I think
about it I realize
you probably would have had
your problems at
the asbestos factory too.

RGB Carnovsky

“RGB is a work about the exploration of the “surface’s deepness”. RGB designs create surfaces that mutate and interact with different chromatic stimulus. RGB’s technique consists in the overlapping of three different images, each one in a primary color. The resulting images from this three level’s superimposition are unexpected and disorienting. The colors mix up, the lines and shapes entwine becoming oneiric and not completely clear. Through a colored filter (a light or a transparent material) it is possible to see clearly the layers in which the image is composed. The filter’s colors are red, green and blue, each one of them serves to reveal one of the three layers.”

DO WANT

Martin Finke - Other Men

in the night time locks are loosened, bows untied
I shake off my shoes in a travelling way
a day of service done, a closing to the day
I find a blushing message in my mail
and read it as the light begins to fail
a flicker on the screen sets your name dancing
it’s a pinch of electricity that answered

tonight I’ll regale other men
with tales that I’ll be seeing you again
tonight, tonight

Omnishambles

The Oxford English Dictionary’s 2012 word of the year is “omnishambles”.

Although omnishambles is still most commonly used in political contexts, usage has evolved rapidly in other contexts to describe any debacle or poorly managed situation. Omnishambles, derived from omni- (‘all’) and shambles (‘a state of total disorder’), has given rise to its own derivative, omnishambolic, indicating that potentially this is a word with staying power.

The OED’s US counterpart, the Oxford American Dictionary has chosen “GIF” as its word of the year.

Takeaway: The English are pessimistic while Americans are optimistically distracted by kittehs.

Boulevard du Temple, Paris, 3rd arrondissement, Daguerreotype.

The purportedly first picture of a living person. The image shows a busy street, but due to exposure time of more than ten minutes, the traffic was moving too much to appear. The exceptions are the two people at the bottom left, one who stood still getting his boots polished by the other long enough to show. Look closely and you will also see another man sitting on a bench to the right reading a newspaper. Also in the upper left hand side you can also see another man standing under the awning of the 3rd building from the left. What looks to be a woman standing under the street lantern at 10 o'clock from the man getting his shoes shined and another one in the big white building,1st row 3rd window down. Notice the child in the top floor window of the white building in front. Note that the image is a mirror image.
